I finally finished captain Teddy.
I will be releasing it on youtube soon, or I might make it available somewhere else as well.
anyway, first I have to do a re-cut of the movie as I am not 100% happy with some of my editing.

1. scene 5 -
captain teddy and crew feet crossing between ships
2. scene 6 -
Captain teddy poses with crew behind and looks down to pacifier then glares at it
3. scene 7 -
zooms in on captain showing crew behind him shrinking back, camera zooms out and captains eyes widen and he looks behind him at empty space where crew were

4. scene 8 -
the captain shouts at crew but a shadow falls across him and he narrows his eyes the camera dives in on him and he brings his arms up for defence END

5. End credits
captain teddy clutched under the arm of a baby at night while he tries to free himself - credits roll up Fade to black

7. get more sounds -
toy squeeks, water splashes, wind and wood creaks, sword drawing sound thumps on wood

8. voice recordings-
I need to record the audio for captain teddy, I will need a microphone so ill have a look around for one this weekend

9. music-
ive got a very rough soundtrack that wont fit well but it will work as a stand in untill I can make something better.

Ive been working furiously and here are a couple of pics of works in progress

note, the blue teddys texture and bump are actually from a photo for poorly grouted tiles in a bathroom, the grout looks like its fluff sticking out from between patches of cloth:)

Intro - Blocked out and done (will be Re-doing the movement of the map as it does not work well in the scene

Scene 1 & 2 - Blocked out and done (some minor tweaks needed)
Scene 3 - Blocked out (needs refinement, the characters torso movement needs work and the crew needs to be added on the boat.

TO DO-

SC4 (ships crashing together from a top down view)
SC5 (Captain and crew charge the rail)
SC6 (Crew feet as they leap between ships - also known as a bootleather shot)
SC7 (Captain ted strikes a pose and spots the dummy) - longest scene
SC8 (Captain orders a search - the crew flee)
SC9 (Captain realises he is in for a fight and Reaches for his sword)
SC10 (captain spins with his sword and charges the camera - fades to black and ends with a loud squeek)
SC11 (several cut shots which thump in with a beat, slowly revealing the aftermath of the charge)

SC 12 (shot of baby hand grabbing Captains leg then a shot of the captain being dragged off with a scared look on his face)

ok here is another status update

ship is textured
captain ted is done
baby needs a couple of tweaks
captain teds minions need to be done

main world scene is done
the ships sail texture is getting done today
the intro should be done soon
the outro should be done soon

Summary:
to get anything but the intro outro and a few of the later scenes done, I will need to finish the captains minions.
so yeah Ive gotta do the captains minions.
Ill post up a pic later to show you the boat and the main scene where all the animation will be done in.

well Ive sorted out the texture problems, and I will do one more test with the motion mixer, if it doesnt work, then I will have to do it all by hand.

things that need doing:

water needs a tweak

captain teddys cloak is having problems needs to be re-rigged

the ships sails need the wind effector to be rotated to a more downward angle to simulate the taughtness of the sail.

ships wheel needs modeling

telescope needs modeling

sword needs modeling

minons need modeling

baby needs to be finished up

music needs doing

(I hope to have all these problems fixed over the next 2 days. even if they are still iffy i am going to start animating with them and ill replace the models later if ive got time.

Intro

Not much going on in animation land, as ive had some texture problems with my ship, need to get help with that, hmm what else.

ahhh yes, the intro bit is coming together nicely, the rough animation (timing and motion paths) is done, as is the rough distortion mapping for the map floating in the water.

also Ive had problems with the Motion Mixer and im going to have to get help with that too, I dont seem to be able to load bones into the motion mixer, the only way around it would be to IK the entire bear skeleton and then do it that way, but I dont like IK its to touchy in many aspects and the bear doesnt move right when everything is too flexible.

well here are som of my notes from my walkcycle

walkcycle length :24 frames

the walk cycle works but is a little to fast, I think If i stretch it to double its current length, it should work out.
also, ive still got to do the shoulders rotation and the coat movement.

well I've finished off the captain Ted model, the rigging is pretty much done too, might need some small tweaks still.

I'm currently finishing off captain Ted's morph maps and ive been having trouble getting his eyepatch to behave properly, I'm going to have to go in and manually move the whole thing point by point it seems (sigh)

anyhow here are some pics

well here is an update for ya!

all ive done is a little bit of research today...
but have a look at the useful links tab and go have a look at a couple of the pages I found whilst out and about.

I've been reworking the head of Captain Ted and am still not satisfied, Ill upload some pictures of his current state later so gimme some tips Ive been really pissed off with the damn head.

here are some pictures of my favourite Pirate Anime TV series "One Piece" the kiddysafe version for american audiences... is pitifull have a comparison viewing some time to see what censors can get away with when it comes to ripping the heart out of a good TV series.

that ends my rant
anyhow, the Pirates ship in One Piece is what the ship in captain teddy will be based on, exept for the tree... which is still a cool idea, although the ship pic below doesnt show it the ship has a mandorin tree - at least i think its a mandorin tree... do they come from trees... bah ill google that later ARRRG!!!

Anyhow this series is a good source of Poses for pirates as they often strike poses according to japanese animation standard practice :)

well due to the fact that the story needed some tweaking to be stronger visually Ive had to change a few things and here is a short list of the changes.

Intro:
reworked so that the main theme is now the floating treasuremap, instead of a shot of the ship.
- Mat Caithness gave me a good idea that Im going to have a think on, he said that instead of the scene turning to night I could instead just switch straight to the ships main enterance and have the movie title on the ship like a ship name - the only problem Ive got with this is that it detracts from the captains entrance because it will cause his entrance to be slow...

hmmm
i suppose if I change the entrance a little it may work.

Scene1
Re did the captains entrance and the link between the intro and scene 1

Scene2
changed the birds eye view to a front shot of the deck showing the small minion bears.
added a bit with feet running to show the crew setting about thier tasks

Scene 3
added a shot where the captain strikes a pose and encourages the crew by waving his sword, also used this to show the targeted ship.
changed the ramming scene to a birds eye view as the ships close then as they slide along oneanother to a stop.
changed the crew boarding scene to one with the captain in the lead followed by his howling minions.

Scene4
changed shot of the crew fleeing to a single high angle shot with the captain in the forground as the crew leaves and he turns around.

-everything else is same as before at the moment, i will update the script at some point

I am experimenting with some water to use as an ocean, the idea is to get a decent ocean that looks kind of like a bedspread or colourfull cartoony thing that still has the key elements of water.

Intro Sequence:
There are waves created out of a bedspread pattern viewed from a top view, a faded treasure map floats by with the main credit then the camera swings up to a behind low angle shot of the pirate ship as it sails away, the camera pans up to look at the sky, down slides the main title graphic and branding just after the top mast leaves the bottom of the shot.

Scene 1:
Place: Ext Day, Bedspread ocean, Captain Teddy’s pirate ship
Scene starts with a shot of a sunrise over an ocean, the camera is trucking along to the right at speed.
The bow of a pirate ship bobs into view it is moving a little faster than the camera at first.
As the bow moves with the waves the captain can be seen standing on the prow of the ship, he is striking a pose.
The camera cuts to a view of the captain as he looks in the direction the boat is travelling, sea spray and water pray up around him as the ship cuts through the waves.

Scene 2:
Place: Ext Day, Bedspread ocean, Captain Teddy’s pirate ship
The camera quick cross fades to a shot of the captains profile as he pulls out the telescope.
The captain pulls a telescope out and puts it to his eye as he squints into the distance.
The camera pans around the captain until it reaches a front view, the captain lowers the telescope and grins.
“Were on her lads, make ready to board!!!”

The camera cuts to a shot from behind and left of the boat while it rotates in a wide arc around the boat and finishes at a birds eye view as the crew runs about.

Scene 3:
Place: Ext Day, Bedspread ocean, Captain Teddy’s pirate ship
The camera pans up to track the pirates quarry.
The camera cuts to a trucking shot of the crew as they line the rails of the ship readying their weapons, the camera moves up to the wheel where the captain stands.
“brace lads!!!”
Camera cuts to a mid shot of the two ships as the pirate ship rams into the rear quarter of the quarry ship then slides along to pull along side.

Camera fast cross fades to a shot along the rails of both ships as the pirates swing and leap onto the quarry ship.

Scene 4:
Place: Ext Day, Bedspread ocean, the toddler ship
Camera cuts to a low angle shot looking up at the pirates as they from an arc to both sides of the captain with him in the centre.
The crew look uneasy as there is no one on the deck.
Camera cuts to a high angle shot above an behind the crew as they look out onto the deck of the quarry ship.
Sitting on the deck not far from the crew is a large dummy and the camera focuses on it and zooms in.
Camera cuts to a reverse shot showing the crew behind the large dummy, they are now visibly shaking.
Camera cuts to a shot of the captain and the crew starts to run all scattering and moving to the pirate ship.
The captain turns and yells “come back you mutinous dogs!!”
A large shadow moves over the captain.

Camera cross fades to a front shot of the captain, his forehead creases as he realises there is something behind him.
Camera swiftly pans down to a shot of his hand as he moves it to his sword and begins to draw it.
Camera cuts to a shot of the captain from behind as he spins while drawing his sword, he yells “die you dog!!!”
And lunges towards the camera.
Camera fades to black and there is a squeaking sound.

Scene 4:
Place: Ext Day, Bedspread ocean, the toddler ship
Camera fades in to a side view of the sword, it can be seen that it is only a pushy type sword that squeaks.
The camera zooms out and you can see the pirate captain and part of a large bare chest.
Camera cuts to a high angle shot of the captain as he looks up towards the camera.
Camera cross fades to a pov shot tracking up the toddler a he looks stupidly at the captain, a stupid grin comes across his face and he moves forwards at the camera to hug it.

Camera cuts to a shot of the captain as he sleeps, his eyes shoot open and he yelps, he has sweat on his forehead he looks around then sighs.
Then he does a double take and his eyes widen and he makes a pathetic mewling sound.

The camera zooms out and it can be seen that he is in the arms of a toddler in a cot, camera fades out to black and end credits.

End credits:
Credit names scroll up on a faded weathered treasure map and when the credits are over the captain runs across the screen screaming.

I kind of dead ended on the rock idea.
anyhow, started working on a few new ideas and here is the list

1. Teddy bear wanderer
(idea about a teddybear that has been left behind after its family left home, and its attempts to find them)
(i like this one but I might twist it in some way to make it different to toy story)
2. Ancient conflict
(an ancient statue comes to life and sees the mess that has been made of the earth, it becomes angry and regrows earths plants)

3. Dream fight
(a janitor works away in his job and thinks about his dream of owning an amusement park, his dream comes alive and forces him to go out and do it) (mat thinks its interesting but needs more work and some kind of message at the end)

Project:

Create an animated movie that runs for approximately 1 minute.
The movie must use the theme "conflict.... NOT WAR"
There are to be no war like weapons or war like themes but it should contain conflict of some kind.

this project is also to have an Title sequence and an end credits sequence.
